GAZA

The Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP) is a Palestinian NGO,setup in 1990, to grant mental health services to people in the Gaza. The approach is based on openness and on alerting, supporting and involvingofcommunities. The aim of GCMHP is to help the Palestinian population and specifically the population of Gaza by improving the conditions of and the attitudes towards mental healthandhuman rights.

GCMHP guided a number of research projects that have produced importantinformationconcerning the impact of trauma and violence on Palestinian children and their families. Two of these projects are designed by TPO.A couple of research papershave been published in international illustrated magazines. The Video Centre made a lot of documentaries concerning children, violence and the rehabilitation of victims of human rights violations,which are important means for informingthe public concerning mental health. The programme actively deals with protecting human rights, information, and publicity and, if necessary, gives support at demonstrations.
